Mare Nostrum Lab is one of the four so-called Flagship Projects of the Priority Research Area implemented as part of the special program Excellence Initiative, Research Universities by the Ministry of Science and Education, awarded to the top scientific universities in Poland. 

The main goal of Mare Nostrum Lab is to provide a new impetus to research related to the cultural heritage of Mediterranean societies. This region, of crucial significance to the civilizations of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, is at the center of interest for many researchers at Jagiellonian University." The research developed as part of the project focuses in particular on three interdisciplinary research areas: archaeometry, remote sensing, and digitization.
